Craft Show Listings
Resources to Find Shows to Sell In
Craft show listings will provide you with all the information you need to sell your candles at shows. You'll find the name of the event, the location and the date(s) - crucial information as you plan your time and inventory. Often, these resources will offer some extra tidbits as well, such as how big the crowd was last year, contact information, and the size of the booth space.
If you'd like very detailed lists of events, booth space, costs, and just about anything else you need to know, go to FairsandFestivals.net This is a comprehensive fair and festival calendar and resource for craft vendors, art vendors, commercial vendors, food vendors and music vendors.
You're probably looking for events within a certain distance of where you live. For that kind of information, Craft Lister is the site you're looking for. You can input the maximum number of miles you're willing to travel from your zip code, along with keywords to help you find the type of show you want to do. Very handy!
Another good craft directory to search is Festival Net. This is a fee-based service, though you can get some of their information for free.
Local Craft Show Listings
Of course, your local resources should be your first stop when it comes to finding upcoming local craft shows, bazaars or festivals.
You'll probably know at least a few of these local shows simply by living in your area. There are probably certain major ones that happen annually. To find other events, try:
1. Your local Chamber of Commerce, or the one in the city you're interested in. Here's an online directory for Chambers of Commerce, or you can simply check the business section of the phone book for that city and look for "Chamber of Commerce."
2. Check the phone book again under "Convention Bureau" for this great resource for events of all kinds. You'll find this listing in the government pages of the specific city (the blue pages).
It's a good idea to get on the mailing lists for the two resources above, for any town or city that you're interested in doing shows in. This way you'll find craft show listings well in advance, giving you plenty of time to get ready. Plus, you'll also be able to scope out some of the more unconventional events where it might be worthwhile to set up a booth for your candles.
Newspaper Craft Show Listings
Last, but certainly not least, is your local newspaper. Most newspapers have a certain day of the week when they'll run listings of events, classes, concerts, etc. This is a great way to find craft shows and festivals, but you need to be vigilant and check them every week in order to find each show well enough in advance.
It's a good idea to visit as many shows as you can, to determine if they would be worthwhile events for you to do. If you've been a craft show go'er then you've probably noticed that certain people seem to do the same shows year after year. That's a good sign that they do well at this particular show. Most crafters and vendors will graciously answer some general questions about this if you tell them you're thinking of doing this show next year.
This kind of research involves planning a year or so ahead, but is invaluable in determining the potential profitability of a show. So take your time, do your research, and prepare well by using these tips to find craft show listings. Your candle business will definitely benefit from your hard work.
