My Network Marketing Story
You may be wondering about my own network marketing story. It's only natural that you'd wonder, especially if you're considering starting your own business or contacting me for more information. So let me tell you a little about myself.
I'm currently a high-school biology teacher in my 21st year of teaching ... wow, it seems strange even to write that. It doesn't seem that I've been doing this that long!
Even though I enjoy my career for the most part, there are times when I wonder if there's something else I could be doing that doesn't take quite so much out of me ... physically, mentally and emotionally.
I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit - I think I get it from my dad, who always was self-employed while I was growing up. While I like my steady paycheck, part of me is always looking for something I could do that could replace my teaching salary and allow me more freedom to be be with my family and do the things I enjoy.
At one point about 4 years ago, I started a retail store called The Tranquil Underground. It was located in a small college town nearby. I sold New Age items, aromatherapy and essential oils, and marketed toward stressed-out professional women who needed some tranquility in their lives. It was successful, especially considering that I was only open for 4 hours a day and 7 hours on Saturday. You see, while my customers were getting more tranquility, I was killing myself.
I'd get up at 5:00 am to get ready for my teaching day. I'd teach from 7:30 till 2:30 and then zip out of school to open my store by 3:00 pm. Then I'd do all the things required of being a store-owner until 7:00 pm. I'd then head home, where my wonderfully supportive husband and son would have dinner ready. I'd eat dinner, do any schoolwork I had to finish, and then fall into bed.
You probably have an idea of what's coming next ... the pace I was setting was just too much. I had to close my store. My family was suffering and I was suffering. So even though I loved it more than anything I'd ever done, I had no choice. I couldn't give up my teaching salary with a son getting ready for college and take a chance on an unproven business.
You may be wondering what all of this has to do with my network marketing story. Well, it's some background to place into perspective what's going on with me now.
I started doing some research, and realized that the best way for me to possibly replace my teaching salary was to start a business where my time could be multiplied. Something where I could work from home, without putting undue stress and extra work on my family. And I re-discovered network marketing.
The problem I'd always had with this kind of business (my dad used to sell Amway, so again ... it's in my blood!) was that I couldn't really convince myself that the products were worthwhile. Not only that, but often many of these companies have pretty expensive auto-ship requirements. I figured, if I couldn't even convince MYSELF to buy them, how would I be successful in "convincing" others to buy them?
Neither of those issues are relevant now. With my candle business, not only do I love and use the products myself everyday, but there's no "convincing" involved in selling them. People absolutely love them!
I'm still teaching full-time. But this home-based candle business has allowed me to leverage my time ... and it's hard to consider working with candles and bath and body products to be work. I just love the products too much!
Since the products really do almost literally "sell themselves," this business is easy to run from home, providing me and my family with excellent income. Especially nice now that my son is a senior in high school and has just been accepted to college!
One important note here, though - I don't want to give you the impression that if you do nothing, the money will just flow in. That's simply not true of any business. But the training and support I've received are like nothing I've ever experienced before, and I have tried network marketing in the past. This is by far the best network marketing company I've had the pleasure of working with as far as quality of products and company support.
So ... there you have it! That's my network marketing story. I'm a real person with a real history, and I've been happy to share some of it with you.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all about the products or the business. It would be my pleasure to talk with you!
